John's Jots
January 5, 2010
2010! Kind of has a ring to it, doesn’t it. It should be easy to make the transition from 2009 to 2010 as we date our checks, letters and etc.. But, it is still hard to believe that 2009 is gone and 2010 has taken its place. I was told many years ago that the older one gets the quicker time flies. Well, this soon to be sixty year old, is now discovering just how true that statement is. I had many things on my calendar to get done in 2009 that just got rolled over into 2010. I just didn’t have the time to get everything done last year. So I now have just that much more to get done this year.
I think we are all guilty of letting time slip away. But, what about the things that we were suppose to accomplish for Christ? Do you really think that it is safe to assume that we will always have the time to get that done tomorrow? Think of the consequences.
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey my commands.” He didn’t say you will plan to obey. Jesus tells the story of 10 bridesmaids who were to be ready for the bridegroom’s coming. They all planned to go to the wedding feast, but five of them didn’t prepare for his coming and were shut out of the wedding feast. Their intentions were good, but their actions left them out in the cold. They were not ready when the bridegroom came! Being a bridesmaid doesn't guarantee entry into the party, no more than planning to be a good Christian guarantees entry into the Kingdom of God.
Yes, life is paved with good intentions, but until we accomplish our goals there can be no victories!
Christ has promised us great rewards, but they are contingent upon our obedience. I sure hope you are not to busy in 2010 to accomplish what Christ has called you to do. Those rewards are reserved for those who obey not plan!
I pray you all had a very Merry Christmas and that you will have a prosperous and Happy New Year as you accomplish much for our Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ.
