A Brief History of Assumption Christian Church
Assumption Christian Church first met on May 14, 1870 when Elder J. M. Morgan held a meeting in the Baptist Church and baptized several people. Those people, along with a handful of others, met in their homes weekly to hear sermons and share in Communion. In October of 1875, they broke ground on the first church building. That building was dedicated in January of the the next year. That building had a spire that reached 85 feet high that was destroyed in a storm sometime after 1904.

The building was torn down in1915 so that a new building could be constructed on the same site. The newer building was dedicated on September 10, 1916.

On October 16, 1955 property south of the building was purchased. Construction of a fellowship hall began in March of 1960 and was dedicated on June 18 of the following year.
The old white frame church building was torn down on May 31, 1966 and the present building was constructed from August 1966 to March 19, 1967.
In 2009, property was purchase accross the street to the west and a building was torn down to provide more parking space. In that same year, an addition was added to the east side of the building and provided 3 large classrooms and storage space.
